Weekend Away in Whistler!
Written by Robyn on December 19th, 2008Tyler and I are both looking forward to this weekend as we are heading up to Whistler for 2 nights for our ‘Christmas Whistler Wonderland.’ We plan to spend 1 day skiing/riding on each Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain. We also plan just to have one full day enjoying Whistler Village and all of the Xmas lights, shopping, and dinning out. I know it sounds cliche, but, I would love to go on a horse drawn sleigh ride. We are both a little short for cash right now so we will have to check the prices.

Us at the Longhorn during Spring
One of our favorite places to eat out in Whistler, any season, for a meal is the Longhorn Saloon. I love this restaurant/pub. It has great people watching, fun night life, awesome views of the mountain (winter or summer), alcohol, and tasty food. My personal favorite on the menu is the Cheese Quesadilla (hold the chicken or beef)….just cheese and guacamole on the side! I’m sure we will be consuming at least one during our weekend trip.
This morning the snow base on Whistler is only 65cm but I know the weather is forecasting snow, so maybe we might get more? My number one job tomorrow is to find snow tires for my 2008 Yaris Sedan. Current road conditions up Highway 99 are not letting people up to Whistler unless they have snow tires. A good friend of mine has some used ones to put on my car so we will be able to get to Whistler safely on Saturday. Also, I’m looking forward to trying out my new roof rack for our gear. One day I would ultimately love Thule storage top for my car…but, I got this roof rack as a Xmas gift this year- so I’m not complaining as otherwise our gear would be in the trunk =)
I’m hoping to ski my two favorite spots on the Whistler/Blackcomb Mountains this trip.
On Whistler, the Symphony Chair, I love it on that side of the mountain as the views are amazing and I just can’t get enough of Rhapsody Bowl off to the right hand side. With Tyler being a newer boarder we might not get to that run so early in the season this trip…but hopefully later in 2009! One day I would love to try Cat Skiing and from Symphony is an area where you can watch people go up either by hiking or the Cat to go down Flute Bowl.
On Blackcomb…I know it’s what everyone says….but I love hitting 7th Heaven in the morning. The runs are always fun but nothing beats Ziggy’s Meadows in fresh powder. 7th Heaven is on an exposed side of the mountain and it gets very windy and will often be closed down by the afternoon.
We are really looking forward to just relaxing before Christmas as we both have had a hetic Decmeber season personally and proffessionally. We will take lots of photos to follow up some posts about the weekend. What are some of your favorite spots on the mountain or in the village?
