The North Face Montana Gloves Men
Written by Tyler on December 15th, 2008One of the pieces of gear I have needed for this upcoming season has been a pair of new gloves in which my hands will stay warm and dry. The previous gloves I had were borrowed from one of my sisters’ boyfriend and they were pretty much useless. My hands were cold and wet and that is just not a good mix when you’re up in the snowy cold of Whistler/Blackcomb right?
The North Face Montana Gloves
While Robyn and I were in Minneapolis we stopped over at the North Face store to browse their products and to look for gear we were needing for the upcoming season. Robyn needed a whole new outfit and I was primarily looking for gloves.
The various North Face gloves currently on the market range depending on what your needs are. After consulting with the store manager I came to the choice of the Montana gloves.

The Montana gloves are an all-mountain insulated glove which is not only waterproof but also has breath-ability which to me is quite important. You want your gloves to breath so they don’t over heat and produce sweaty hands, right? One thing I have always disliked about gloves is that they kept my hands too warm whereas I would start sweating and would have to take them off.
The features of the Montana gloves are as follows:
- Adjustable webbing wrist cinch
- Articulated molded fit
- External zippered stash pocket
- Integrated goggle wipe
- Ladderlock wrist cinch
- Removable leash
- Soft chamude nose wipe on thumbs
Who would of thought that they came built with a nose wipe? I know some people might find this part a bit gross but so is having a running nose due to the cold weather. The goggle wipe can also be handy and I will have to try them out this winter season.
The molded fit is comfortable and not too hard to get my hands into, they also allow for easy mobility unlike some other gloves I have tried on.
I also found that they are easy to cinch up when I am wearing both gloves as well as uncinch them when I need to take them off.
The stash pocket that each glove has built in could be useful for money, keys or even those small pocket warmers, though you do need an ungloved hand to access the zipper to open it up.
The North Face’s Hyvent Technology allows for a breathable waterproof system which allows perspiration to pass outside the fabric without condensing into liquid on the inside.
Conclusion
I cannot wait till the winter season to try out my new gloves. They fit comfortably and look forward to the Hyvent system which should keep my hands from being wet as well as ensuring they do not build up that funky sweat smell after a long day at the mountain.
The gloves fit so well that Robyn also bought the woman’s Montana glove. We only noticed that until after we got them home and looked at them closer. Great minds think alike, right?
Though for spring season I might have to look at getting a pair of lighter gloves such as the Hoback Work Glove. They too are waterproof but do not provide as much insulation as the Montanas.
**Update:
Well, Robyn and I hit Whistler on opening week and I got to try out my North Face Montana Gloves and they were awesome. Not only did my hands stay dry they were also kept warm for the whole day of rain, sleet and snow. Not to mention they were easy to get on and off and I did not get snow in them either. I am looking forward to using them every time we hit the slopes!
