Local Ski Conditions and Snowboard WorldCup

Written by Tyler on February 2nd, 2009

After a bit of a dry spell and that crazy inversion we recently had here in the Metro Vancouver area, we finally received some decent precipitation. Which of course usually means one thing for our local North Shore mountains: snow.

That’s right our local mountains received over 20 centimeters of snow. A lot of people will be happy about this as we’ve been going through a somewhat dry spell and the runs on the mountains have been pretty icy.

Cypress Mountain:

Overnight Snowfall: 25cm

Cypress has temporarily closed some of their runs due to the upcoming Snowboard WorldCup event. The runs that are currently closed are PGS, Fork, and Cascade. You can still access the rest of the mountain via Panorama. So if  you are going up before 4:00pm you will be able to hit up the Crazy Raven chair and the runs on the south side of Black Mountain. The closed runs will be open to the public after February 16th.

Grouse Mountain:

Mount Seymour:

Whistler/Blackcomb:

Overnight Snowfall: 22cm

It looks like even Whistler/Blackcomb has received 22cm of fresh snow. They have been needing snow for a while too. People are saying VANOC is using this year’s season to judge how the conditions will be for the 2010 Winter Olympics, all I know is they better start getting more snow quickly. They are behind this year due to the extreme cold temperatures and lack of precipitiation.

Robyn and I will definitely be hitting up Cypress on Tuesday night for some good fun ski and snowboard action. As I look out my window I can see the fresh snow that has fallen on Cypress in the distance, I’m excited!
